My Mother
How My Mother's Passing Transformed My Understanding of Life
Life has a way of surprising us, often in the most profound and unexpected ways. Four months ago, I lost my mother, and this article isn't just about loss; it's about transformation and seeing life through a completely different lens. My mother was a dengbêj, a Kurdish storyteller who wove tales through song. She was a pillar of strength, raising eight children on her own while my father worked tirelessly in Germany. Our family was close-knit, bound by the stories and strength she imparted to us.
The Day Everything Changed
The day she passed; I touched a dead body for the first time. Washing her in an Islamic ritual was a deeply moving experience that brought me face-to-face with the reality of death. It wasn't just the end of her life; it was a moment that reshaped my understanding of existence.Since that day, my ambitions have shifted dramatically. The desire for wealth, the excitement of meeting someone new, the urge to prove my importance—all these things have lost their meaning. I realized that no matter who we are, how rich or important we become, we all end up the same: nothing but memories in the minds of those who loved us.
What truly matters, I've come to understand, is the good we do and the happiness we bring to others. Our selfish ambitions can destroy us, our families, and even our societies. We can all find happiness by caring for one another.I never wanted to be rich before, but now I do—not for myself, but to help others. I want to make a difference, to bring joy and support to those who need it. Life is temporary, and we are closer to death than we often realize. Understanding this has given me a new purpose.
A Change in Writing Direction
This transformation has also changed how I approach writing. Initially, I planned to focus solely on fashion, but now I feel compelled to write about anything that matters to me. I don't want to limit my thoughts anymore. I want to share my journey, my realizations, and my authentic self with the world. Losing my mother was the most challenging experience of my life, but it also brought me clarity. It taught me what truly matters and inspired me to live a life of purpose. I hope my story encourages you to reflect on your own life and consider what is genuinely important.
